I recently had the opportunity to interview hopeful adoptive parents Drew and Kelly from Texas. Expectant mothers have the opportunity to speak with waiting families before they make their decision, but sometimes it’s nice to just get a little more info to understand who they are.
I asked them some fun questions that you won’t find in their adoption profile, and I learned that they are a loving, family-oriented Christian couple who are so excited to become first-time parents through adoption!
1. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Kelly: I wanted to be a detective or PI. I would still love to do that as a side job! I love true crime, mysteries, putting puzzles together. Putting clues together and trying to solve things is always exciting to me. I love going to Escape Rooms and trying to figure a way out.
Drew: As a kid, I loved airplanes and jets. It was cool to me hear how loud and fast they were. Because of this, I always wanted to be an Air Force Fighter pilot. I love pushing the limits of being able to go faster and further.
2. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Kelly: I absolutely love chicken tenders and fries with gravy and ketchup! I have always loved this meal since I was little, and nothing has changed! I love dipping my fries and tenders in ketchup and gravy. Everyone who is eating with me thinks it’s so crazy. I rarely look at a menu when we go to American food restaurants because I already know what I’m getting. It’s very rare if I venture away from my favorite meal!
Drew: I love all foods and trying new ones, but my all-time favorite would be steak/potatoes. It would have to be a quality ribeye medium rare, salt/pepper only over an open flame, not just any type of steak.
3. What is something from your childhood that you want to make sure your child has or gets to experience?
The most treasured experience we have from our childhood is both having a lifelong friend. We got to know these friends as young children and have remained best friends with them into adulthood.
We may not be able to see each other often since our lives have taken us to different places, but we are always there for each other and know that we can count on each other in the best or worst of times. When we can get together, we pick up right where we left off. We have a special bond that can only be found in this special friendship. We love Christina and Tony!
4. What is your ideal vacation?
Anytime we get a chance to go on vacation, we’re there! It doesn’t matter if it’s a short road trip or flying to a new location.
Our favorite vacation is in a tropical location, so going to Bora Bora would be amazing. Kelly’s favorite animal is a dolphin, so swimming with the dolphins would be a must.
We also love to snorkel and see the underwater world. The creatures and plants are so majestic. We also love to sit in reclining chairs and listen to the waves in the ocean and just relax. In Bora Bora, it would be magical if we had a private bungalow on the water and took everything in!
5. As parents, what is something specific you want to teach your child?
We would teach our child to believe in themselves and believe that they are unique and special. As parents, we would help our child discover their strengths, weaknesses, and values. We would allow them opportunities to develop their gifts and talents. It’s our role, as parents, to support our child in their journey of developing self-confidence.
It’s important for us to be our child’s role model for positivity, hard work, and a “never give up” attitude. Allowing our child to see that everyone has struggles, and how they handle those struggles, is important to living their best life.
