I chose adoption for my babyHailey was a pastor’s daughter who had been caught skipping school, smoking behind the church, and hanging out with an older crowd. Even though she knew Jesus’ love, the strict rules at home seemed too harsh for her free spirit.

She got pregnant at 17, and shared with us, “it felt like my whole world came crashing down. I felt shameful and guilty all the time and hid my pregnancy from parents. In my heart I knew better than this; sex before marriage is a real sin!”

When Hailey finally told her parents she was four months along and totally clueless about how to make this right with them and with the Lord. Rather than yell at Hailey, her parents embraced her with the love of God. They encouraged her to repent her sin and ask for His leadership in her decisions. Together with her parents, Hailey learned about her options and decided on an open adoption. She chose a Christian couple who weren’t able to have a baby of their own.

“Doing adoption wasn’t easy, but the guilt and shame I felt were exchanged for love for my baby, the adoptive couple, and God,” says Hailey. She celebrated this love because it was part of God’s plan for her life, even though it was due to her bad choices.

Your unplanned pregnancy might be part of God’s plan to bring happiness and joy to a childless couple. Think of it this way: maybe your sin is part of the miracle that God has ready for a couple who long for a baby. Pray and think about what the Lord wants you to do with your baby. Ask for His grace to support you as you make your decision.

All you have to do is seek His forgiveness: whatever mistakes you have made are in the past. Know that you can move on to enjoy the full and healthy life that God wants you to live. Just remember, Jesus loves you, and He has a great plan for your life!
